Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have dormitories?

High school students (grade 10 or above) may live in school-owned apartments near the campus, if units are available. These units consist of single-occupancy, one-room (1R) setups furnished with essential items such as a bed, table, chair, and a small refrigerator. Each 1R apartment spans 26 square meters. Rent for these units, inclusive of utilities, is 72,000 yen per month (subject to change). Please refer to the Application Guidebooks for details.

Is KIU Academy Niseko accredited?

KIU Academy Niseko received accreditation as a miscellaneous school (kakushu gakko) by Hokkaido Prefecture in December 2024. In addition to the Japanese accreditation, KIU Academy Niseko is seeking accreditation from WASC and ACSI.

Do you provide lunch services?

We do not provide lunch services. Students bring lunch from home, buy it on the way to school, or buy it during lunch time from a local shop. A local bread shop provides a 15% discount for KIU Academy students.

Do you provide a school bus?

The school operates a shuttle bus for our students, picking them up at locations such as Kutchan Station, Hirafu, and Kabayama. We will expand the route as needed. Niseko school buses are also available.

What do you mean by “Christian”?

Our education informs students about Christian beliefs and morals and challenges students to evaluate their own worldviews so that they develop a well-informed sense of right and wrong. Students and families of all faiths are welcome. No one is pressured to convert to Christianity but all are expected to respect the Christian character of the school, as expressed in all aspects of school life.

Do you accept seasonal enrollment?

We accept short-term enrollment provided there are seats available in the grade level. 

Students need to be enrolled and attending classes for the entire trimester in order to receive report cards and earn credits.

What level of English/Japanese is required?

Language requirements differ based on grade levels. Please refer to the Application Guidebooks for details.

Can graduates enter Japanese universities?

A number of KIU Academy Kyoto’s graduates have proceeded to leading Japanese universities with our diploma. Please see the University Placement page for details.

Do you offer scholarships?

Financial aid (case-by-case) is available. Please contact the school office for details. (Submit the financial aid application and related documents at the same time as your application for admission.)
